    Whenever I travel to a state for the first time I look for local knife shop. I was in Indianapolis last week and found the Hammered Knife shop.     I ordered the Damascus skinner DIY kit for my son for Christmas. The kit exceeded my expectations from the minute I opened the box. Then I noticed the wood for the handle was cracked in two and panic set in as this is a very special gift for my son for Christmas. I emailed the address provided on the site and explained what was wrong expecting a reply within a few days and a lot of runaround once answered. I sent my email at 6am and by 7am had a reply. I was shocked to say the least. by 9am a new handle was on it’s way and my sons Christmas would be complete. James is a true testament to what a man’s word and product should be.     Fantastic Product
    I adored the kit my wife purchased for me as a birthday present. It contained high quality materials, and the included instructions explained the difficult parts, while still giving you the ability to be creative.

    My ONLY two complaints are:

    – the included sheath was too deep for the knife, making it difficult to remove, due to the handle being barely exposed. This issue required me to modify the sheath for better fitment, and thus, ruined the sheaths original look.

    2: the Damascus blade is absolutely stunning, UNTIL you have to sand the handle stock down. Then, as you near the edge of the tang to create good fitment of the handle material, you actually begin to sand off the Damascus pattern; which in turn, means that I’ll forever had a knife that the tang is a different steel-pattern than the working edge of the knife. I tried several methods to prevent this from happening, but couldn’t. Unfortunately, due to the handle material (desert ironwood), I wont be able to dip the tang into ferric chloride to re-etch the Damascus pattern.

    All in all, I loved the experience, and plan to purchase from these guys again. The customer service was second to none, and extremely responsive.

    I actually haven’t received this one yet—it’s a father’s day gift for my dad. But, I bought mine a few months ago, and have been recommending it to EVERYONE I know who loves knives a a cool project. It was simple to assemble and shape, and the wood/steel were stunning! Well worth the cost, and I will most definitely get another one for myself, once the financial strain of Covid has let up.
